The Cabinet Office monitors the speed and efficiency of our handling of letters from MPs. In calendar year 2005 we answered 68% within our target of twenty working days. In calendar year 2006 we answered 76% within our target and in 2007 we answered 87%.

We handled well over 500 letters from MPs in 2007. Significant numbers of letters the Law Officers receive are in fact for other Government Departments.

We also handle letters from members of the public, which we aim to answer to the same deadlines.
