Basic statistics on unduly lenient sentences

Under section 36 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, if it appears to the Attorney General that a sentence imposed in the Crown Court is unduly lenient and the offence is one to which section 36 applies, the Attorney may, with the leave of the Court, refer the case to the Court of Appeal for them to review the sentence. The Court of Appeal may quash any sentence passed and pass any sentence that they think appropriate.
