International Strategy

The Law Officers' International Strategy is based on the fact that domestic interests and international action are entwined and that the best defence of security at home is the spread of liberty and justice overseas. Furthermore, that States have a duty to help others create effective justice systems as an integral part of establishing sound democracies and stable societies. That sustainable development in any area, for example; governance, finance, commerce health or education is dependant on the establishment of the rule of law based on humanitarian principles.

As Ministers responsible for the Crown Prosecution Service, Serious Fraud Office, Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office and the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Ireland, the Law Officers are well placed to initiate international rule of law and capacity building activity utilising the skills and expertise of staff in their departments. Equally, to evaluate requests received from others where national and international rule of law projects are concerned and assist with their delivery.
