Correspondence targets and performance
Since November 2004 the AGO has had a dedicated correspondence unit.
The Cabinet Office monitors the speed and efficiency of our handling of letters from MPs. The table below shows the percentage of letters we answered within our target of twenty working days from 2005-2009.

We handled well over 300 letters from MPs in 2009. Significant numbers of letters the Law Officers receive are in fact for other Government Departments.
We also handle letters from members of the public, which we aim to answer to the same deadline.
